I use a custom brush that Manda sent me for a lot of the drawings you see on my blog. I also use some other sets given to me by instructors in the past for environments or as the need arises. For a long time though, i just used the default brushes (hard and soft) that came with photoshop haha. You can always google up photoshop brushes and experiment with them to find one you’re comfortable using!

I think the most simple way to improve (with no time for actual classes) is just to keep drawing. Have a sketchbook with you at all times, and just doodle when you feel like it. Draw things that come to mind, draw people that you see, draw the animals that cross your paths, etc. Don’t be discouraged that it might not come out the way you pictured it in your mind, because your mind will always be ahead of your body, so you can almost never achieve the exact picture you see in your head (but you can always try try try and try again to get as close as you can)! 

There really is no “short cut” to improving, really, but just draw. Draw a LOT.
